I am μ (Mu), a contemporary Japanese calligrapher dedicated to the art of shodo — the way of ink.
After a career as a chemist and scientific systems engineer, I turned fully to Japanese calligraphy. My journey is grounded in both precision and sensitivity — qualities that shape each brushstroke I make.
My Artistic Vision
In my work, ancient poetry and timeless forms converge with the seasons of the present moment. Rather than merely depicting words, I seek to capture the presence of a season, a breath of time, and the silent space between lines, allowing ink to hold what language alone cannot express.
My calligraphy draws on classical literature, from seasonal waka and haiku to the inscriptions of ancient masters. Each piece reflects a dialogue between the past and the present, seen through a brush that moves with intent and restraint. Webs of history, texture of paper, and trace of time all play their part in revealing what lingers in the air.
