μ (mu) : Calligrapher and Designer
After a career as a chemist and scientific systems engineer, I am now dedicated to the art of Japanese calligraphy, “Shodo”. I work as a calligraphy instructor, create original artworks, and design logos, among other projects.
Gallery μ: Collection of my Artworks
Welcome to my site, where I introduce my own calligraphy works and the verses featured in them. Through these creations, I aim to share the essence of Japan’s current seasons while reflecting on the beauty of times long past.
Speaking of the past, I have been fascinated by history since childhood. As a kindergarten student, I would often murmur names like “Toshodai-ji Temple” and “Todai-ji Temple,” much to the surprise of those around me.
The art of shodo calligraphy is deeply intertwined with classic literary works. My appreciation for these masterpieces grows as I learn about the historical backgrounds and the lives of their authors. This understanding brings a sense of closeness to the people of those eras. For example, I marvel at the carved stone inscriptions on Mt. Taishan, attributed to Li Si, a minister of Qin Shi Huang around 210 BC. I am equally captivated by kohitsu—handwritten kana manuscripts from nearly 1,000 years ago, penned by aristocrats of the time.
These connections to history are what first drew me to the world of shodo. Now, while honoring the profound aesthetic sense of these timeless classics, I strive to express my own impressions and feelings in my works, bringing a touch of the present into this age-old art form.
