The cherry blossoms painted on the fan and the melody of the waka.
Yesterday, Tokyo declared the blooming of the Somei Yoshino cherry blossoms, marking the true arrival of spring. Throughout the city, buds have begun to unfurl, and the sight of delicate cherry petals swaying in the breeze leaves a gentle impression on the heart.
To fully savor this joyful moment, I prepared paper adorned with cherry blossom motifs and traced the shape of a fan on it. The fan’s graceful arc resembles cherry branches stretching toward the sky, and with each stroke of the brush, I felt the breath of spring come to life.
This poem likens the blooming cherry blossoms to white clouds rising from the valleys of distant mountains, reflecting the Japanese appreciation for the rhythms of nature.
The beauty of cherry blossoms lasts only for a fleeting moment, but by taking up the brush, I hope to capture and preserve even a trace of their ephemeral brilliance.
