brief comment
I wanted to capture that fleeting moment when the morning sun is just about to rise above the horizon—
that feeling suspended somewhere between stillness and exhilaration.
I wonder how it comes across to you…
To tell the truth, this piece was created in one spontaneous burst—without drafts or rehearsals. Just one go.
It’s funny—when working on calligraphy, there are times when no matter how much I revise or refine a piece, it just never feels quite right.
And then, there are pieces like this one—where everything falls perfectly into place on the very first try.
Choosing the composition, deciding how to begin the first character, balancing the empty space on the paper… Each piece requires countless small decisions.
Even after mentally running through all the possibilities and creating test versions, it’s not uncommon to still feel unsure, to go back and forth, sometimes spending days wrestling with one work.
But every once in a while, I pick up the brush and from that very first stroke, it all just clicks.
It’s as if my intuition takes the lead, and my hand simply follows.
Calligraphy, in the end, really is a mysterious thing.
